Visitor statistics
Two things count visits, and both are set up to collect as little as possible.
GoatCounter is the main counter. It sets no cookies and records no personal data. For each visit it keeps the page, the referring site, the country, the browser and the screen size, all aggregated. It cannot identify you and it cannot follow you to another site.
Google Analytics runs only if you allow it. Visitors in the EU, the EEA and the UK are asked first, and nothing is stored on your device until you accept. Everyone else is counted by default, and can opt out below. When it is allowed, it sets analytics cookies so Google can tell a returning visit from a new one, which is what makes it possible to see how people move through the site. Google Signals and advertising personalisation are switched off, so the data is never used to target ads at you. Event data is kept for 14 months and then deleted.
Marketing in 3 by email
If you subscribe, I store your email address, the date you confirmed it, and which issues were sent to you. You have to confirm by clicking a link in an email first, so nobody can be added without their own action. Raw IP addresses are not stored. Delivery reports from Amazon, which sends the email, are kept for 30 days so I can see whether messages arrived.
Every issue has an unsubscribe link, which takes effect immediately. If you want your address and its consent record deleted outright rather than unsubscribed, email hello@schivinski.com and I will remove both.
Reader support
The coffee button opens Ko-fi, which handles the payment through PayPal. I never see your card details. What I see is the first name and the message a supporter chooses to leave. Ko-fi and PayPal have their own privacy terms.
The feed and the site itself
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages and served over HTTPS. The RSS feed is a plain file: subscribing to it tells me nothing about you at all, which is why I recommend it if you would rather not be counted.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask what I hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@schivinski.com and I will answer. The analytics data above cannot be traced back to an individual, so for that there is nothing personal to retrieve, but your newsletter record can be exported or deleted on request.
